Originally as @stooping_theatre on Instagram we manually helped over 1,000 NYC theatergoers resell last-minute Broadway tickets that they could no longer use.
As the community grew, we moved beyond DMs and built Theatr: an app that keeps the spirit of the community that we built on Instagram alive while streamlining the process through a marketplace. On Theatr, people can resell their tickets at or below the price paid, ensuring that others can enjoy the show at a fair cost and that no seat goes empty.
Beyond ticket resale, we’re creating a new kind of theatergoing experience that fosters a community of theatre lovers advocating for access.
By sharing reflections on shows, offering seating tips, and passing on secondhand tickets, we’re making theatre, music, opera, and dance—live cultural experiences that once felt out of reach for newcomers—truly inclusive and accessible.
- Tickets sell fast! 40% sell within 10 minutes, even day-of.
- No seller fees—you keep 100% of your earnings.
- All tickets are sold at price paid or below—no upcharging.
Email us at support@theatr-app.com. We read every email!
This community runs on trust. Please follow these rules:
- Sell at or below price paid (including fees).
- Upload valid proof of purchase showing the price paid and show date/time.
- Report suspicious listings—our system automatically removes listings after enough reports and suspends repeat offenders.
If your tickets are invalid, buyers can dispute for a refund up to 30 minutes after showtime.
See a ticket you want? Buy it directly on Theatr.
- For Instant Transfer tickets, you’ll receive them immediately in the app.
- For everything else (like physical tickets), you and the seller will get each other’s contact info to coordinate the handoff.
We hold your payment until after the show. If the tickets are fake or invalid, you can dispute for a full refund up to 30 minutes after showtime.
Before purchasing, always check the proof of purchase to confirm the show date, time, and price paid match the listing.
Report the listing. Listings without clear proof of purchase or asking above price paid violate our rules. Our system automatically reviews and removes listings with enough reports.
Not necessarily! The printed price usually doesn’t include service fees (typically $15+). As long as the seller listed the ticket for the price they paid (face value + fees) or less, they are following our rules.
If you think something’s wrong, contact support@theatr-app.com and we’ll look into it.
Refunds typically take 5–10 business days to appear, depending on your payment method, your bank, and how quickly you canceled the payment.
Sometimes multiple charges may appear as pending on your statement because your payment didn’t go through on the first attempt for reasons like zip code error. However, the extra ones will be removed in a few business days.
Make Offer lets buyers submit a price lower than the asking price for the seller’s approval.
Sellers can accept, decline, or counter the offer — making it easier to find last-minute deals that work for both sides.
- Tap “Make Offer” on the listing.
- Submit the price you want to offer (plus Theatr fees added at checkout).
- Pay the total upfront — the seller has 24 hours to respond.
- If accepted, your ticket is confirmed.
- If declined, you’ll receive a full refund.
- If countered, you’ll have 24 hours to accept or decline the new price.
Offers expire 24 hours after they’re sent if the seller doesn’t respond or once the show time passes (whichever arrives first).
Go to Orders → Buy to track all your offers.
Click on a listing to view offer status, time left before expiration, or cancel the offer.
You can cancel your offer anytime before the seller responds to get a full refund.
You cannot change an offer once submitted, but you can cancel and send a new one.
Yes. Offers don’t lock the ticket. Someone else can still buy or send an offer.
If the ticket sells or another offer is accepted, yours will be automatically declined and refunded.
You can submit a new, higher offer if the ticket is still up for sale.
No. Theatr fees are added at checkout on top of your offer price.
You can have one active offer per listing at a time. You can send offers on different listings simultaneously.
You’ll get a push notification, email, and text.
If accepted, you'll either receive the ticket immediately (for Instant Transfer listings) or the seller’s contact info to coordinate handoff.
Possible reasons:
- The offer was too low.
- The seller didn’t respond in time (offer expired).
- Not enough tickets available.
- The listing was reported and taken down.
It depends on where the seller bought the ticket:
- For most digital tickets, the seller can upload the ticket directly to the app for Instant E-Ticket Transfer. You will receive it immediately after purchase.
- For physical tickets and some digital tickets that either need to be transferred within the original purchase platform (like TodayTix and SeatGeek) or that the seller won’t receive until closer to the show date, you and the seller will receive each other’s contact information so you can get in touch to coordinate the ticket transfer.
For more information on ticket transfer, refer to this Guide.
Most digital tickets, including PDFs, digital wallet passes, and tickets from Broadway Direct or Broadway.com will work as screenshots and can be uploaded to the app for Instant E-Ticket Transfer as screenshots.
For more information on how you will receive the tickets, refer to this Ticket Transfer Guide.
Instant E-Ticket Transfer lets sellers upload digital tickets directly to the app, so you get them right after purchase—no need to coordinate with the seller. Seller contact info is still available on your order page if you have questions.
Note: Physical tickets and some digital tickets (e.g., TodayTix and SeatGeek) still require direct coordination.
Some box offices require ID for pickup.
The best way to transfer physical tickets is to have the seller pick up the tickets themself and hand them off to you. Alternatively, the seller can call the box office to transfer pickup to your name.
If neither is possible and you're unable to pick up the ticket, we will refund you upon receiving eligible proof.
If you buy a ticket that is not for Instant Transfer but you never hear from the seller, reach out to your seller first to make sure there wasn’t a mix-up.
If you still don’t hear back, you can cancel the transaction for a full refund as long as the seller hasn’t marked the tickets as transferred in the app.
If the show is very soon and the tickets haven’t been marked as transferred yet, feel free to cancel the order.
If you have time before the show, wait a little bit to see if the seller will respond but also remember that you can cancel at any time before you receive the ticket.
If the seller has marked the tickets as transferred but you haven’t received them or coordinated handoff of the physical ticket, reach out to us at support@theatr-app.com so we can connect you with the seller in case the message didn’t go through.
If the tickets have not yet been marked as transferred, you can cancel directly in the app by going to Orders → Buy → click on the listing → select “Help” and “Cancel.”
If your tickets have already been marked as transferred and you’ve received them, you will need to ask your seller if they are willing to cancel and refund you. If they agree, they can initiate the refund on their end. However, in most cases, you’ll need to resell the tickets yourself because you’ve already received the tickets.
If a ticket is invalid or fake, you can submit proof to dispute the transaction up until 30 minutes after the show begins for a full refund.
Any tickets to a live performance event in NYC, including theatre, concerts, dance, opera.
Yes!
For most digital tickets, you can upload them directly to Theatr for Instant Transfer—buyers will receive them immediately after purchase.
For physical tickets, it’s best to pick them up yourself and hand them off to the buyer. (Note: Box offices often check ID.) Be sure to specify the transfer method in your listing.
For more information on ticket transfer, refer to this Guide.
Yes, but with some risks:
- Ideally, pick up the tickets yourself and hand them off to the buyer.
- Or, call the box office to switch the pickup name to the buyer’s.
- If neither is possible and the buyer can't pick them up, they will receive a full refund and your payout will not be released to your Theatr account.
No, you may not resell past date tickets.
Past date tickets are not allowed to be resold as per the box office rules. If you sell past date tickets and are not able to pick up the tickets yourself and hand them off to the buyer in person we will refund the buyer and cancel the transaction.
You must sell at or below price paid (including fees).
Upload one of the following:
- A screenshot of your confirmation email showing price paid, or
- A photo of the physical ticket.
Proof must show both show date/time and price paid.
Important: Block out all barcodes and personal info before uploading.
If you sell your tickets elsewhere, please deactivate the listing from Theatr ASAP. Note that recurring cancelations of paid orders will impact your ability to sell in the future.
Orders that were already completed (i.e., buyer paid and tickets transferred) will stay active even if the listing is removed.
Possible reasons:
- Show info doesn’t match your proof of purchase.
- Your proof shows a visible ticket barcode.
- Your proof of purchase doesn’t have the price paid.
- You’re charging above the price paid.
Fix the issue before relisting.
If your listing is disputed, we’ll ask you for:
- Proof of purchase
- Ticket screenshots
- Conversation screenshots with the buyer
You must respond within 48 hours or the dispute will be approved and the buyer refunded.
Make Offer lets buyers submit a lower price for your approval. You can accept, decline, or counter to sell faster—especially close to showtime.
You'll get a push notification and email. You can also see offers under Orders → Sell→ click the listing.
Yes.
If you accept, the payment becomes pending once the ticket is marked transferred.
If you decline, they’re automatically refunded.
If you counter, they have 24 hours to respond.
Offers expire 24 hours after they're sent if you don't respond.
Go to Orders → Sell → click the listing to:
Accept, decline, or counter offers.
If you accept, the buyer will either instantly receive the ticket (if Instant Transfer) or you'll get their contact info to coordinate transfer.
Yes. Tickets are not locked during offer review—other users can still buy or make offers. Once a listing is sold out, all offers will be automatically declined.
All pending offers will be automatically declined. Paid sales already in progress will stay active.
No, once you decline an offer, this cannot be undone. Make sure to double check before you decline any offers.
Offers are enabled by default. If you don’t want to accept an offer, you can decline it or just let it expire after 24 hours.
It depends on where you bought the tickets and their format:
- If you have the digital tickets, you can upload them to Theatr for Instant Transfer. Once a buyer pays, they’ll get the tickets immediately in the app.
- If you have physical tickets, tickets needing transfer through another platform (like TodayTix or SeatGeek), or you haven’t received the tickets yet, you’ll get the buyer’s text or email on the Order page after payment. You can then reach out directly to coordinate transfer. For full information on ticket transfer, refer to this Ticket Transfer Guide.
Instant Transfer lets you upload digital tickets directly into Theatr so buyers receive them immediately after purchase—no need to coordinate.
Note: You’ll still need to manually coordinate for physical tickets, TodayTix and SeatGeek tickets, or tickets you haven’t received yet.
No—first, contact the buyer to confirm how and when you’ll deliver the tickets.
Once confirmed, use the "delayed transfer" option on the Order page to secure the sale and prevent last-minute cancellations.
If it’s time sensitive, you can either cancel the transaction and try to sell to someone else or you can email us at support@theatr-app.com so we can get you in touch in case the message didn’t go through.
If there is sufficient time before the show, you can wait and see if they respond in a bit but always feel free to cancel and move on to someone else if you aren’t hearing back.
Your buyer can cancel only before you mark the tickets as transferred.
If a buyer cancels, your listing will automatically go live again for someone else to buy.
If you’re in a rush to sell, try lowering the price to find a buyer more quickly.
If you’re okay with the cancellation, you can cancel in one of two ways depending on the status:
Before transfer: Go to Orders → Sell → Select the order → Tap the three dots → Cancel order
After transfer: Go to Orders → Sell → Select the order → Tap “Need to refund?”
If you don’t want to cancel, you are not obligated to. The buyer can choose to relist the tickets for resale on the app.
If necessary (e.g., show canceled, buyer changed their mind, buyer unable to receive tickets), you can issue a refund by tapping "Need to refund?" on the Order page.
Note: Unauthorized cancellations can result in penalties, including account suspension.
You can add your payout information in the app in Orders → Sell → Payment by following these instructions. Your payment will become available for transfer up to two business days after the show (may be delayed during holidays). For more information, see Payout Schedule.
Note: All payouts are processed through Stripe Connect and cannot be used for purchases inside Theatr yet.
Sorry, we currently only support US banks through Stripe Connect.
As a Third-Party Settlement Organization (TPSO), Theatr is required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state tax authorities to issue Form 1099-K to US citizen or US tax resident Hosts who meet 1099-K reporting thresholds. Form 1099-K reports gross payment transactions processed on your behalf by Theatr.
You will only receive a 1099-K form if you meet all of the following criteria in the 2024 calendar year:
- Based in the US or US taxpayer
- Have $5,000 USD in total gross volume
Note: Your ticket sales for the year are based on the date you were paid through Stripe Connect, not the sale date.
If you meet the US tax reporting requirements for the 2024 calendar year, Your 1099 tax form should be located in the Tax Forms tab of Stripe Express by January 31, 2025. If you’ve opted into paperless delivery, you’ll be able to view and download your form on the Tax Form page in Stripe Express. Refer to Stripe's Support Page if you need more assistance.
While you only need to pay taxes on any profits you make, we recommend that you consult your tax advisor to understand how to report your 1099-K on your tax return. It is your responsibility to report amounts and deduct any fees or charges to sell your tickets.
Submit your request here. By deleting your account, any data associated with the account will be permanently deleted. We will process your request within 10 business days.
Your account was warned/suspended because you passed the threshold of listings that were reported by users and taken down. After a certain number of reported listings, you will receive a warning notice, informing you that your account is in danger of being suspended.
If the suspicious activity continues, your account will be permanently suspended. This system is in place to keep our marketplace safe, scam-free, and trustworthy.
Any remaining balance will be automatically transferred to the bank account/debit card that you set up with Stripe and should appear there within a few business days.
